Important Notice Regarding Changes to the Real Estate License Act of 2000. Effective May 1, 2011:
Changes the license categories under the Act from Salesperson and Broker to Broker and Managing Broker. The term “broker” is what the public identifies with when it comes to the real estate licensee they work with in a transaction. The term “managing broker” clearly identifies the person(s) in the brokerage operation that have management authority and responsibility.
Getting Your Broker License
To qualify for an Illinois Real Estate Broker’s License you must be at least 21 years old, a high school graduate or equivalent (G.E.D), successfully complete the required coursework, pass the state licensing exam and obtain sponsorship from a sponsoring broker.
Effective May 1, 2011 the Broker license category replaced the former Salesperson license category. The new Broker license has the same privileges of the previous Salesperson license category, but requires additional education to include 90 hours of pre-license education, 15 of which must be interactive and 30 hours of post-license education. The 90 hours include a 75-hour Broker Pre-license Topics course and a 15-hour Broker Pre-license Applied Real Estate Principles Interactive course.
As a licensed branch of the Illinois Association of Realtors Licensing & Training Center, Baird & Warner now offers the new 90-hour Broker Pre-Licensing course. In addition, we are offering a 45-hour supplemental course for those students who successfully completed the salesperson pre-licensing course (45 hr) prior to April 30, 2011 but did not take the state exam.
