Working with a real estate brokerage is a requirement to obtaining your broker license, but you will need to be selective when deciding which is the right one for you. Find a partner that will meet your business needs, providing the tools, training and coaching to get you started.

It’s important that you ask the right questions of a brokerage to understand what is offered for the fees that you will pay to affiliate with them. Here are a few sample interview questions:

∙ What training and coaching is available? Is there a fee for this?

∙ What expenses should I expect?

∙ As a first-year broker associate, how much can I expect to make?

∙ Do your broker associates get personal websites? Is there a fee?

∙ What type of facilities and resources are available?

∙ Is your firm independently owned or part of a franchise?

∙ What marketing materials are provided?

∙ Will my managing broker list and sell?

∙ How will I be compensated?

Remember to do your research and ask the managing broker to connect you with experienced broker associates to hear first hand about their office.
